Arteriosklerose
What happens in your body when your cholesterol levels are too high?
Elevated cholesterol and triglyceride levels are changing the blood vessels over time: The excess blood fat is accumulated in the blood vessel walls, where it leads to calcification and loss of elasticity, and as a last consequence makes the vessels crack. These fatty deposits ("plaque") increasingly narrow the vessel diameter, so that there is a reduction of blood flow and associated circulatory disturbances.
This so-called arteriosclerosis can subsequently lead to many cardiovascular diseases that occur where the body's vascular calcification is localized.
